The successor to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class will arrive in 2028.

Sucessor do Mercedes-Benz Classe A vai chegar em 2028

Mercedes-Benz seems to already have a successor for the A-Class when the well-known model is discontinued, with everything set for the new model to arrive in 2028.

The new 5-door hatchback will be based on Mercedes’ new MMA platform and promises to be a versatile model, betting on both combustion and electric powertrains.

Although the final design of the new model remains a secret for now, “Autocar” reports that the successor to the A-Class may retain the traditional silhouette of a hatchback and share important dimensions, including width and wheelbase, with the third generation of the GLA, which is expected to launch in the second half of 2026.

The decision to once again bet on a hatchback for the entry-level segment confirms a retreat in Mercedes’ strategy, which has been advocated in recent years by CEO Ola Källenius, who focused on luxury, prioritizing high-profit models over vehicles with large sales volumes in traditional segments.

The strategy has ultimately been questioned after the German brand’s half-year results revealed a 6% decline in global sales, pressured by a significant 19% drop in electric vehicle sales.

This change in direction for Mercedes may not be limited to just the new entry model in the range, as Mathias Geisen, head of marketing and sales for the German brand, told “Automobilwoche” that new models based on the MMA platform are on the way in addition to the successor of the A-Class, meaning that more small and low-cost models are planned. Geisen also confirmed that more than 40 new models are expected in the next two years, representing an unprecedented product offensive.
