Austin Cindric Faces Frustration After Disappointing Race at New Hampshire: “It’s a Shame!”

In what can only be described as a rollercoaster of emotions, Team Penske driver Austin Cindric found himself fighting an uphill battle during the grueling Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 21, 2025. While his teammates, the formidable Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney, soared to new heights, Cindric’s performance left much to be desired, leading him to express his disappointment candidly in a post-race interview.

Joey Logano, behind the wheel of his #22 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, commanded attention by securing the coveted pole position, followed closely by Ryan Blaney, who clocked in just 0.170 seconds behind. In stark contrast, Cindric’s fortunes plummeted as he qualified in a disappointing P22, struggling to even graze the top-20 throughout the intense 301-lap race. Clocking a best lap time of 29.59 seconds and peaking at a speed of 128.71 mph, Cindric found himself 0.43 seconds behind the reigning champion, a gap that would haunt him throughout the day.

Stuck in a frustrating 17th place and unable to capitalize on his long-run speed, Cindric opened up about his struggles, stating, “I can only speak on myself, but had really great long-run speed. Just never felt like I was able to capitalize on it. I definitely botched my lap there in qualifying, which sets us back. And you know, you have to be able to restart well, and struggled on that. And guys threw a lot of the car today; just, yeah, just a shame.” Despite the setback, he held on to a glimmer of hope, acknowledging that other playoff contenders also faced challenges, which kept him in the race for playoff points.

Meanwhile, Ryan Blaney clinched a triumphant victory, dominating the race by leading an impressive 116 laps and finishing in the top spot. Joey Logano also showcased his skills by finishing P4, but for Cindric, the race was more of a lesson in humility than a showcase of talent. Crossing the finish line in P17, he faced the harsh reality of the competition.

In the midst of his disappointment, Cindric took a moment to applaud NASCAR’s forward-thinking changes to the 2026 Cup Series schedule, emphasizing the need for drivers to have proper breaks. “Number one is two off weeks. That’s, we need one in the middle of something. You think about it, we’ve been racing since Easter, which I love. I love that, but god, it is a grind for everybody involved,” he asserted, calling for a balance between the rigorous racing calendar and personal downtime.

With the unsatisfactory finish at New Hampshire, Cindric slipped one spot in the playoff rankings, now sitting at tenth, a precarious 19 points below the cutoff line. As he gears up for the next challenge at the Hollywood Casino 400 presented by ESPN Bet on September 28, 2025, at Kansas Speedway, the pressure is mounting, and every lap will count.

The stakes couldn’t be higher for Cindric, who must regroup and refocus if he hopes to turn his fortunes around in the coming races. Will the young driver rise to the occasion, or will he remain trapped in the shadow of his more successful teammates? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the racing world will be watching closely.
