Hamilton Dominates Azerbaijan FP2 as McLaren Crashes into Chaos – What Happened?

Hamilton’s Stellar Performance Overshadows McLaren’s Misfortunes in Azerbaijan GP Practice!

In a breathtaking display of skill and speed, Lewis Hamilton has catapulted to the forefront of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, seizing the top spot in the second practice session with an impressive lap time of 1:41.293s. This thrilling performance not only placed Hamilton ahead of his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc—who finished just 0.074 seconds behind—but also sent shockwaves through the McLaren camp, where both drivers faced harrowing setbacks.

Hamilton began the session on Medium tyres, trailing Leclerc at first, but quickly showcased his prowess on the Soft compound, leaving his competitors in the dust. The seasoned driver is no stranger to the streets of Baku, having seen Leclerc dominate the past five qualifying and sprint qualifying sessions. But this time, it was Hamilton who snatched the spotlight, proving yet again that he remains a formidable force in the championship.

Meanwhile, the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri found themselves in dire straits. Norris, attempting to navigate the challenging corners, unfortunately brushed the wall exiting Turn 2 and, in a disastrous turn of events, veered off at Turn 4, slamming into the barriers. The damage to his left-rear suspension forced him to retire early from the session, leaving his team scrambling for answers.

Piastri, not to be outdone, also encountered trouble as he grazed the barriers at the tricky Turn 15. Although he returned to the pits for a quick inspection, his subsequent lap only managed to secure a lackluster 12th place finish—two spots behind the beleaguered Norris. To add to his woes, Piastri is now under investigation for a potential yellow flag infringement, casting a shadow over his performance.

In a contrasting display of consistency, Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top four, trailing the Ferrari pair by four-tenths of a second, with just a razor-thin margin of 0.009 seconds separating them. Meanwhile, Haas made headlines as Oliver Bearman surged to an unexpected fifth place finish, despite a couple of minor excursions off the track, while Esteban Ocon claimed eighth.

The Red Bull team also saw their star driver, Max Verstappen, finish in sixth, closely followed by teammate Liam Lawson in seventh. Williams’ Alex Albon managed to secure a commendable ninth place, while Carlos Sainz of Ferrari found himself split between the McLaren drivers in 11th.

As the dust settles on this chaotic practice session, all eyes will be on the McLaren garage. With both drivers struggling and underperforming, the pressure mounts ahead of the main event. Can Hamilton maintain his momentum, or will the McLaren team recover from this dismal outing? One thing is for sure—this Azerbaijan Grand Prix is shaping up to be a dramatic showdown that fans won’t want to miss!
