David Malukas Takes the Wheel of Team Penske’s Legendary #12 IndyCar for 2026 Season!

Historic Shift in IndyCar: David Malukas to Take the Wheel of Team Penske’s Legendary #12 in 2026!

In a groundbreaking announcement that has sent shockwaves through the motorsport world, Team Penske has officially named rising star David Malukas as the new driver for the iconic #12 entry starting in the 2026 IndyCar season. This monumental shift marks a significant milestone not only for the 23-year-old driver but also for the storied legacy of Team Penske, a powerhouse in American racing.

Malukas, who has already made a name for himself with stints at Dale Coyne Racing, Meyer Shank Racing, and AJ Foyt Racing over the past four seasons, is ready to embrace this monumental opportunity. His journey to the #12 seat hasn’t been without its challenges, including a serious wrist injury that sidelined him early in the 2024 season while he was signed with Arrow McLaren. The injury, which hampered his recovery, led to his eventual departure from the team, leaving fans and analysts speculating about his future.

Last season, Malukas drove for Foyt, a strategic move that kept him in the mix for a potential seat at Team Penske. With the recent announcement of Will Power’s departure from the team—a result of unsuccessful contract negotiations—an opportunity arose that many thought was out of reach for the talented young driver.

“Racing for Team Penske is the goal for every young racecar driver, and I am honored to be one that gets to live out that dream,” Malukas expressed, his excitement palpable. “Will Power is one of the legends of our sport and the #12 Verizon Chevrolet is one of the most-recognized cars on the grid. These are big shoes to fill, but I look at it as an opportunity because I know that it is one of the best teams in the paddock.”

This momentous change comes after Will Power, a mainstay in the #12 entry since the 2009 season, announced his move to Andretti Global. Power will take over Colton Herta’s seat as Herta transitions away from IndyCar to chase his Formula 1 aspirations.

Malukas’ multi-year contract not only solidifies his place in the illustrious Team Penske lineup but also makes him the youngest driver on the three-car team. With a blend of youthful vigor and a wealth of racing experience, Malukas is undoubtedly poised to make his mark as he steps into one of the most coveted seats in motorsport history.

As the 2026 season approaches, all eyes will be on David Malukas as he takes the helm of the legendary #12 entry. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating how this talented driver will rise to the occasion and continue Team Penske’s legacy of excellence in IndyCar racing. The stage is set for a thrilling new chapter in both Malukas’ career and the storied history of Team Penske!
