Nissan will close its design centers in California, USA, and São Paulo, Brazil, and will reduce operations in London and Japan.
According to “Reuters”, the measure now announced is part of Nissan’s global design organization realignment strategy, which is expected to be completed by the end of the fiscal year 2025, and aims to optimize operations.
In this way, Nissan intends to consolidate its design organization into five centers: Los Angeles, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Atsugi, Japan.
Additionally, Nissan’s “Studio Six” in Los Angeles will become the main design center for the brand in the USA, while London will continue to support the regions of Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania, in collaboration with partner Renault.
It should be noted that Nissan’s CEO, Ivan Espinosa, who took office in April, revealed in May a restructuring plan for the company, “Re:Nissan,” to reduce fixed costs and increase profits, which includes reducing the global production capacity of the Japanese automaker from 3.5 million to 2.5 million vehicles and closing seven production units by the fiscal year 2027.
