Austin Hill, the formidable driver of Richard Childress Racing (RCR), is making waves in the NASCAR Xfinity Series as he boldly declares his team’s position as the “third-best” contender heading into the playoffs. In a gripping interview, Hill laid bare the stakes for his team, emphasizing the urgency to secure a place among the top eight and ultimately vie for the championship title.

Finishing the regular season strong, Hill ended up as the third-best driver, trailing behind the undeniable champion Connor Zilisch and his teammate Justin Allgaier. With an impressive tally of three victories, 11 Top 5 finishes, and 14 Top 10 placements leading up to the Illinois race, Hill has established himself as a serious threat in this season’s championship chase.

In a candid conversation on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Hill stated, “If we had the playoff points, we’d be seated third. I view us as the third-best team in the playoffs right now. If the third-best team can’t get out of the Round of 12 and into the Round of 8, then we shouldn’t even be in the running for the championship.” His words reflect not just confidence but an unwavering belief in his team’s capabilities. “We’ve done everything right throughout the regular season, and we are good enough to be in that top four. Now we just gotta go out there and prove it,” he asserted, underscoring the pressure that lies ahead.

But it’s not just Hill who is turning heads at RCR. His teammate, Jesse Love, is also climbing the ranks, currently sitting in fourth place with a record that includes one victory, three pole positions, eight Top 5s, and 18 Top 10 finishes. The duo’s performance is a testament to the prowess of Richard Childress Racing, a powerhouse that is determined to make its mark in the playoffs.

As the countdown to the Bristol playoff race intensifies, Hill shared his strategy: “I’m just going to do the same thing I’ve done each and every year. I don’t have many enemies on the track. Once the playoffs start, everyone’s going to be gunning for it.” His focus is laser-sharp, with the objective fixed on advancing to the Championship Four.

In a dramatic turn during the Bristol playoff race, Aric Almirola emerged victorious, securing his spot in the Round of 8. Hill, however, faced a setback, finishing in 19th place, while Love crossed the line in 25th. This disappointing outcome raises the stakes even higher for Hill and RCR as they strive to bounce back and prove their mettle in the remainder of the playoffs.

With tensions mounting and the competition fierce, Austin Hill and Richard Childress Racing are poised for a battle that could define their season. The question remains: Can this “third-best team” defy the odds and clinch the coveted championship? Time will tell, but one thing is for sure—this showdown is far from over, and fans will be watching closely as the drama unfolds.
