Tesla recently confirmed that it will establish a research and development center in Germany, something that the company had already announced a while ago.
According to the German press, the new research and development center of the American electric vehicle brand will be located in Berlin-Köpenick, strategically positioned between the Tesla Brandenburg factory and the center of Berlin.
The brand of Elon Musk intends for the new infrastructure to conduct materials research, vehicle and engine development, among other areas. Initially, about 130 engineers working at the Berlin factory will be transferred to the new research and development center.
However, in the coming years, the center is expected to grow to approximately 250 employees. Although Tesla has not disclosed specific details about the investment amount, technology director Lars Moravy announced that at least a double-digit million amount would be invested in the location in the coming years.
The announcement of Tesla’s new German research and development unit comes at a time when the American electric vehicle brand is facing difficulties in sales, which continue to decline in several European countries.
Despite the drop in sales, Elon Musk’s brand maintains plans for the expansion of the factory in Germany and reinforces its commitment to Europe with a research and development center.
