F1 Controversy Erupts: Gabriel Bortoleto Demands Justice for Felipe Drugovich After Cadillac’s Shocking Snub!

In a stunning turn of events that has left the motorsport world buzzing, Gabriel Bortoleto has thrown his support behind Felipe Drugovich, the overlooked Formula 2 champion who was shockingly bypassed by Cadillac for a coveted seat in the 2026 Formula 1 lineup. This unexpected announcement, made just before the Dutch Grand Prix, revealed that Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez would be steering Cadillac’s ambitious F1 debut, leaving many to question the decision-making process of the American automotive giant.

The implications of Cadillac’s choice resonate deeply within the F1 community, particularly for Drugovich, who has been left stranded without an F1 drive despite clinching the Formula 2 title in 2022. His remarkable success should have propelled him into the elite ranks of Formula 1, but the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll have blocked his ascent at Aston Martin, where he was initially poised to make his mark.

Bortoleto, who himself ascended to F1 with Sauber after his own F2 triumph, expressed his dismay over Drugovich’s exclusion. “It’s a big company,” Bortoleto stated emphatically, addressing the media, “They have their goals and a lot of people deciding these types of things. It’s not up to me to judge anyone’s decision, but I truly feel Felipe deserves a chance to be in Formula 1. It’s not over yet—maybe one day he gets his shot.”

He further emphasized, “He’s a Formula 2 champion, so I believe everyone that wins F2 should have a chance in Formula 1. Felipe is a great guy, and I feel like he deserved it.” Bortoleto’s passionate defense raises questions about the criteria being used by teams when selecting drivers, especially the glaring omission of such a talented individual.

Adding to the chorus of support, Oliver Bearman, who is navigating his own rookie season with Haas, echoed Bortoleto’s sentiments, stating, “I largely agree. From their point of view, it makes sense to go with two guys who are known quantities within the sport. Taking a rookie is, of course, a bigger risk than taking two guys with a lot of experience. But I do think there are a lot of people not on this grid who have a huge amount of talent and should have the opportunity to show what they can do. Felipe is one of them.”

Bearman’s remarks shine a light on a broader issue within F1: the talent pool that remains unrecognized. “At the top of every category, there are a lot of great IndyCar drivers who would do a good job here,” he added, emphasizing the necessity for teams to look beyond established names and consider the wealth of untapped talent that exists in the motorsport world.

As the dust settles from Cadillac’s controversial announcement, one thing is clear: the fight for deserving drivers like Felipe Drugovich is far from over. The message from Bortoleto and Bearman resonates with a growing demand for fairness in driver selection—a call for a system that values merit over mere experience. The Formula 1 grid is watching closely, and the future may yet hold new opportunities for those who have proven their worth on the track.

Stay tuned as this story develops—will Felipe Drugovich finally get the chance he so rightfully deserves? The F1 community is eager to see how this narrative unfolds in the coming seasons!
