Sometimes I’m like, ‘I wish I was more like that, I really do’.”
However, Norris is not one to shy away from self-reflection. He acknowledges that his softer demeanor can sometimes be perceived as a weakness, especially when compared to the steely resolve of champions like Lewis Hamilton and Ayrton Senna. Yet, he remains steadfast in his quest for success—success that is defined by his own standards. “I want to do it my way,” he asserts. “You don’t need to be a dickhead; you don’t need to have that kind of attitude.”
As he battles alongside his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri—an equally talented yet calm competitor—Norris recognizes the importance of experience in their rivalry. “I always hated using experience as an excuse or reasoning for things, but you end up going, ‘yeah, well, I just learned about this because of experience’,” he confessed. “That is my advantage over Oscar.” With Piastri proving to be a formidable opponent, Norris admits that the Australian’s poise under pressure makes him seem almost emotional by comparison.
But the stakes have never been higher. Following a devastating mechanical failure at the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris found himself trailing Piastri by a staggering 34 points in the championship race.
