Colapinto’s Future in Jeopardy as Briatore Questions Alpine’s 2026 Seat Amid Disappointing Performance

Alpine’s Future in Jeopardy as Flavio Briatore Slams Colapinto’s Underperformance!

In a shocking revelation that has sent ripples through the Formula 1 world, Alpine chief Flavio Briatore has publicly criticized driver Franco Colapinto for failing to meet expectations in what has been a dismal start to the season. This scathing assessment raises serious questions about Colapinto’s future with the team, particularly as he lags behind only teammate Jack Doohan in the standings and has shockingly failed to score a single point in eight races this year!

Briatore’s disappointment is palpable, especially considering the hefty price Alpine paid to extricate Colapinto from his Williams contract. The 75-year-old team principal did not hold back, expressing his lack of confidence in the young Argentine driver. “I’ve seen everything already; I don’t think I need to see anything anymore,” Briatore stated bluntly when asked if Colapinto had done enough to secure a seat for the 2026 season.

The pressure is mounting, and Briatore’s comments suggest that the 22-year-old may not only be struggling with the demands of a high-performance car but also with the intense expectations that come with being in such a competitive environment. “For this driver, it’s very difficult to cope with this car. These cars are very, very heavy, very, very quick,” he added, hinting that perhaps the timing for Colapinto’s Formula 1 debut was ill-fated. “Maybe he needed another year away to be part of Formula 1,” Briatore mused, reflecting on the harsh realities of racing at the top level.

The stakes are high, and with Colapinto’s performance failing to impress, rumors are swirling about potential replacements. Briatore has reportedly been scouting other options within the paddock, including recently announced Cadillac drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. The implications of this search could reshape the future of Alpine’s lineup, and Colapinto’s position hangs by a thread.

Briatore did not shy away from acknowledging the pressure that Alpine may have inadvertently placed on Colapinto by expecting him to immediately rival the more experienced Pierre Gasly. “I think we put too much pressure on him. He had two or three races with [Williams] and did very well, but being in a team with a driver like Pierre, always in competition with his teammate, maybe we underestimated the human part of the life,” he lamented.

This candid reflection underscores a critical point: the mental and emotional toll on young drivers in a cutthroat sport like Formula 1. Briatore’s comments bring to light the often-overlooked challenges faced by these athletes who are still in their formative years. “They’re young kids, 19, 20, 22, 23. I think our mistakes are trying to underestimate the human part of the life,” he cautioned, highlighting the need for a more compassionate approach to driver management.

With Colapinto’s initial five-race trial period long expired, and no clear commitment from Alpine regarding his future, the pressure is mounting as the countdown to the next season begins. Will Briatore’s bold words serve as a wake-up call for the young driver, or is this the beginning of the end for Colapinto’s stint with Alpine? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: the stakes have never been higher!
