Mercedes hires designer from Ferrari as Lewis Hamilton leaves.

Mercedes contrata designer da Ferrari enquanto Lewis Hamilton parte.

Mercedes, the team that has won the constructors’ championship eight times, is about to welcome Simone Resta, a former Ferrari designer, as their new director of strategic development. This move is a crucial part of their efforts to regain their leading position in Formula 1. Resta, who has extensive experience and previously worked with Mercedes’ technical director, James Allison, at Ferrari, will join the team in 2025, showing his long-term commitment to success.

In addition to Resta, Enrico Sampo will also leave Ferrari to take on the role of head of performance software applications at Mercedes. The team has also promoted David Nelson to the position of performance director, filling the vacancy left by Loic Serra, who moved to Ferrari last year.

During his time as chief designer at Ferrari, Resta played a significant role in the development of their highly competitive cars in 2017 and 2018. These cars, led by Sebastian Vettel, started the season as the fastest in F1 and were strong contenders for the championship. However, reliability issues and mistakes from the team and Vettel prevented them from reaching their full potential.

After his stint at Ferrari, Resta briefly worked at Sauber before returning to Ferrari. He later joined the Haas team, which is affiliated with Ferrari, until the departure of their team principal. These strategic hirings by Mercedes come at a crucial time as they face challenges from Red Bull, who have dominated the competition under the new technical regulations introduced in 2022. Mercedes, with their historic streak of consecutive constructors’ titles, aims to reclaim their dominant position and prepare for the upcoming changes in technical regulations in 2026, which will focus on improving competitiveness and sustainability in the sport.
