VW will end the Touareg in 2026, after 24 years of sales, which makes the well-known premium SUV one of the oldest models in the German brand’s portfolio.
According to “Autocar,” which cites VW sources, the decision to put an end to the Touareg shows that VW’s strategy is to position cheaper and more profitable models, such as the Tiguan and Tayron, as alternatives.
Already on sale in major global markets and offered in two- and three-row versions, the Tayron has a towing capacity of 2,500 kg in the 2.0 TSI 4Motion version and features a more versatile interior.
Launched in 2002, the Touareg is a premium SUV that was developed alongside the original Porsche Cayenne, sharing the same platform and fulfilling a dual purpose: to give Porsche its first SUV and to help former VW chairman Ferdinand Piëch realize his ambition of elevating the VW brand with luxury models.
The second generation of the Touareg arrived in 2010, and the model currently on sale was introduced in 2018, receiving an update in 2023.
