Alpine F1 Car Crashes in Dramatic Pirelli Test Incident at Hungaroring

A shocking incident took place at the Hungaroring as Franco Colapinto crashed the Alpine A525 Formula 1 car during a Pirelli test. The test was part of Pirelli’s preparations for the 2026 F1 compounds, featuring new, smaller, and narrower tires in line with the championship’s updated technical regulations.

The unfortunate crash occurred at Turn 11, a high-speed curve on the track, leaving the Argentinian driver unharmed. An Alpine spokesperson confirmed Colapinto’s well-being, stating, “Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK.”

This setback adds to Colapinto’s challenging season, where he has struggled to secure top finishes in the Grand Prix events. His teammate, Pierre Gasly, has outperformed him, accumulating significant points throughout the season. Colapinto’s on-track difficulties, including multiple crashes during qualifying sessions, are further compounded by his precarious contractual situation, as he is reportedly on race-by-race deals, subject to being replaced by Alpine at any time.

The Pirelli test at Hungaroring, involving Alpine, McLaren, and Racing Bulls, aims to refine the new F1 compounds for the upcoming seasons. While track time is typically divided among participating teams, Colapinto’s crash has undoubtedly brought unexpected drama to the testing session.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
