Fiscalização rodoviária: multas de trânsito aumentam 20%

The National Republican Guard (GNR) is carrying out the “RoadPol – Speed” operation starting this Monday, August 4, which aims to monitor speeding.

In a statement, the GNR clarifies that the operation will take place until August 10, throughout the continental national territory, “focused on speed control, concentrating on the most critical roads under its responsibility, where there is a higher incidence of accidents and non-compliance with speed limits, with the aim of promoting road safety.”

This operation is part of the European Network of Traffic Police (RoadPol), an organization established by the traffic police of Europe, with the purpose of improving road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

The GNR also emphasizes that an intensive speed control action is planned for the coming days, as speeding “continues to be one of the main causes of serious road accidents in Portugal, whether due to the reduction of the driver’s reaction time to face an unforeseen event or due to the worsening of its consequences as a result of the greater violence of the impact.” Furthermore, the GNR’s statement reminds that speeding is also the most common offense in all European countries and the leading cause of death on roads across Europe.

“With this action, the aim is to raise public awareness of the importance of adopting safer behaviors by professional drivers, with a view to promoting road safety and safeguarding human lives,” reinforces the GNR statement.

These operations, of a European scope, according to the GNR,  “have as their main purpose the creation of a safer road environment through a simultaneous intervention on the main causes of accidents, thus seeking to positively influence users, leading them to adopt behaviors that prioritize safer practices”.
