The beginning of August for BMW marked the start of series production of the new generation of electric motors Gen6 eDrive, which will equip the upcoming Neue Klasse models, marking a new chapter in the electrification of the BMW Group.
This new power unit will make its debut in the upcoming BMW iX3, with a world premiere scheduled for September. The motor will be produced at the Steyr plant in Austria – a reference unit in engine production within the BMW Group, now also adapted for the electrification of the Bavarian brand’s lineup.
The new motor was developed based on an 800V architecture, and according to the German brand, it ensures significant gains compared to the previous generation, with a reduction in energy losses of about 40%, a total weight reduction of 10%, a cost reduction of 20%, and a range of up to 800 km, working in conjunction with the new batteries, still subject to WLTP confirmation.
According to BMW, the new iX3 exemplifies the brand’s holistic approach to sustainability, which considers all phases of the vehicle’s life cycle, from the supply chain, through production, to usage. The goal is to conserve resources and significantly reduce the emissions footprint.
Remember that the iX3 is the first model of the Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform and aims to contribute significantly to achieving climate goals for 2030 and 2050.
