Aston Martin Resurrection, Alonso Takes 5th: “Podium? Challenging”

In a stunning Saturday for the Silverstone team, Aston Martin’s two cars secured the third row in Hungary. Aston Martin soared to new heights with a remarkable performance as they clinched the fifth and sixth positions in the Hungarian GP qualifying session. This marks their first double top-6 qualification since the 2023 Australian GP. Despite a back injury forcing Fernando Alonso to skip FP1 on Friday, the Spaniard delivered an impressive fifth-place finish, with Lance Stroll trailing just 17 milliseconds behind.

Alonso credited Aston Martin’s performance boost to the track characteristics of the Hungaroring, favoring their AMR25’s capabilities. He emphasized that no major changes were made to the car compared to the previous week, highlighting the circuit’s suitability for their vehicle. The veteran driver expressed curiosity about the reasons behind their competitive edge and how they could leverage it in upcoming races.

While acknowledging the team’s success, Alonso remained grounded, dismissing any lofty dreams of a podium finish. He set realistic goals of maintaining their starting positions and scoring valuable points before the summer break. Lance Stroll echoed Alonso’s sentiments, emphasizing the team’s progress after a challenging weekend in Spa. Both drivers expressed optimism about the race ahead and their chances of securing points.

With the competition heating up from drivers like Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton close behind, Aston Martin faces a tough battle to maintain their positions. The team remains cautiously optimistic about their prospects for the race day, aiming to capitalize on their qualifying success and secure a strong finish. As the Hungarian GP unfolds, all eyes will be on Alonso, Stroll, and the resurgent Aston Martin team as they strive for glory on the track.
