The GNR will intensify, starting this Monday, March 25, and for a week, patrolling and enforcement actions throughout the national territory, to combat road crime and regulate traffic during Easter festivities. Until April 1, the GNR will be attentive to traffic on the roads and reminds that traditionally, the Easter period “is characterized by the gathering of families in their regions of origin and, as it corresponds to the school holidays period, a significant increase in road traffic on Portuguese roads is consequently expected.” In the note, the GNR states that the operation aims at the safety and protection of people, going beyond road enforcement, with efforts also focused on festival locations, surroundings, residential and commercial areas, as well as on the most critical roadways. “The period of intensified road patrol enforcement, on the most critical roads, will be between the beginning of March 28 and April 1, a period where a higher volume of traffic is expected,” indicates the GNR. As part of the operation, the GNR advises “attentive, cautious, and defensive driving, adjusting speed to weather conditions, road conditions, and traffic volume, avoiding dangerous maneuvers, speeding, and not driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances.”

The GNR still draws attention to the misuse of mobile phones and incorrect or non-use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems and the safety conditions of vehicles.
