Toto Wolff ignora rumores de saída da Mercedes após duplo abandono no GP da Austrália.

Toto Wolff claims he cannot leave Mercedes during their recent difficulties. The 52-year-old businessman owns a 33% stake in the team.

Toto Wolff (via IMAGO) has been facing challenges in the era of F1 ground effect. Since 2022, the Silver Arrows have fallen behind rivals such as Ferrari and McLaren. Despite the best efforts of the Brackley team, they have had a poor start to the 2024 F1 season. Faced with this continued performance decline, Wolff has made it clear that he will not resign as Team Principal.

The Mercedes team suffered an engine failure that forced them to retire from the Australian GP. Meanwhile, driver Hamilton crashed on the final lap of the race. This adds to the disappointing results of the Silver Arrows. Toto Wolff questioned whether he is the right person to lead the team through these difficulties. However, the Austrian billionaire stated that leaving is not the solution.

The 52-year-old businessman emphasized that he is not a football coach who can leave and join a rival club. Toto Wolff owns a third of the Mercedes F1 team and also serves as CEO. Therefore, Wolff stated that he does not have the option to leave the team. In fact, he feels trapped in an endless cycle.

The Austrian billionaire acknowledged the immense difficulty of dealing with the double retirement. After a challenging weekend at Albert Park, the 52-year-old businessman admitted to feeling pessimistic. Toto Wolff stated that Mercedes had expected the W15 to be a better car than its predecessor.

However, Wolff pointed out that the Silver Arrows have been trailing behind Ferrari and McLaren since the 2023 Australian GP. The 52-year-old businessman admitted to feeling frustrated with these results. However, the Mercedes team boss emphasized the importance of maintaining faith in the team.

Undoubtedly, Mercedes finds itself in a challenging situation after the Australian GP. The Silver Arrows have a lot of work ahead to regain their position at the front. Now, it’s up to Toto Wolff to rally his team after such a disappointing weekend. Wolff hopes to inspire his team to bounce back in the next stage, in Japan.
