Fernando Alonso’s Nightmare at Spa: From Wrong Choices to 17th Place Finish

The Belgian Grand Prix turned into a nightmare for the Spanish driver and Aston Martin team, as they left Spa-Francorchamps empty-handed. What was supposed to be a promising weekend for Aston Martin with a new AMR25 update ended in disappointment, with no points secured in both the race and the Sprint Race.

Fernando Alonso, a two-time world champion, expressed his frustration after finishing in 17th place due to a strategic error. Alongside Hamilton and Antonelli, Alonso broke parc fermé rules to adjust his car’s setup for the rainy conditions, only to be met with predominantly dry and sunny weather during the race.

“We committed to a wet setup, but the race ended up being mostly dry and sunny. We managed to gain a few positions and finish in 17th place, but our pace was not optimal,” Alonso commented. Despite bringing a new package to the circuit, Aston Martin failed to see the improvements they had hoped for.

Alonso’s decision to tweak the car’s setup before the race backfired, leading to a disappointing performance at Spa. The team now faces the challenge of analyzing data to enhance their performance for the upcoming race in Hungary.
