Carlos Sainz is back on the track and has made a clean break from his disappointments, and it all started off encouragingly on this Spa weekend. The previous Ferrari driver is in the mix after securing an excellent sixth place in Friday’s Sprint qualifying, which puts him into the third row for this afternoon’s short race, which starts at 12 pm. Sainz has struggled for performance this season with Williams, but he is hoping for a change of luck and to consolidate…
“I am happy with P6”, the former Ferrari ace said after qualifying. “It has been a big step for me and the team, especially after missing half of FP1. We have a few car updates that I still need to understand fully in order to get the setup right, but overall, when everything comes together we are quick, and we can show some pace.”
In a stark contrast, Alex Albon was bitterly disappointed finishing 16th and getting knocked out in SQ1. “We had a problem that we thought we had sorted after FP1,” the Thai driver said. “We were losing a lot of time on the straights in the Sprint qualifying, so we will need to try something different to solve that. Overall we have a good car and have been quick around this circuit, so I remain positive for the rest of the weekend.”
There’s plenty of excitement already as the drama plays out at Spa, and Sainz’s comeback and Albon’s struggles create theatre heading into this race. Stay tuned for more as things heat up at this legendary venue!
