The electric Alpine A110 will not be inspired by the past.

Alpine A110 elétrico não será inspirado no passado

Alpine is preparing the new generation of the A110 coupe, which is already known to be 100% electric, and despite the setback in an advanced stage of the project in 2023 with the end of collaboration with Lotus, the new A110 promises to be quite different from its predecessor.

The design director of Alpine, Antony Villain, confirmed to the British “Autocar” that the new A110 will not feature “any retro elements”, unlike the current generation, which is heavily inspired by the A110 from the 1960s.

However, Villain promises that the new electric sports car from Alpine will showcase “all the codes of the A110”, making it recognizable as a descendant of the gasoline-powered model.

The design head of the French brand cited the headlights and the squat silhouette of the mid-engine as important examples. However, the “design language” will lean more towards the new A390.

Alpine has already announced that the new A110 will be lighter than competing combustion engine models, and that the model will be based on a new platform specifically for electric sports cars, which will be used by other particularly sporty models. However, Villain emphasized that the electric A110 will not be taller than its gasoline predecessor, suggesting that it will not have the battery “covering” the floor of the platform, as is conventional in electric vehicles, but most likely behind the seats for optimal weight distribution, or arranged in a T-shape, as seen in the Maserati Granturismo Folgore.

Antony Villain also revealed that the new A110 will feature a new driver-focused cockpit. Despite modern technology, the focus will be on physical controls, which other Alpine vehicles are also expected to receive. “With the future A110, we will present a new generation of cockpit that will be truly innovative”, said the head of design at Alpine.
