Ford wants to launch new models with combustion engines in Europe.

Fábrica da Ford no Reino Unido inicia produção do motor elétrico do Puma Gen-E

Ford seems to be committed to reversing the trend of phasing out many of its light passenger car models in the European market, focusing instead on the light commercial vehicle sector, where the brand has achieved greater profitability.

According to a report from the German publication “Automobilwoche”, Ford informed its European dealers that new light passenger car models will be arriving in the near future, some of which will feature combustion engines.

The revelation was made by Christoph Herr, Ford’s representative for the markets of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, during a video conference with its dealers.

In recent years, Ford has withdrawn many of its most popular light passenger car models from the European market, such as the Fiesta, Mondeo, Galaxy, and S-Max. Furthermore, the popular Focus will be discontinued by the end of 2025.

The decision now announced is not unrelated to the decline in demand for 100% electric models, such as the Explorer and the Capri, which are registering sales below expectations. In this sense, even though Ford’s electric strategy will continue in the coming years, the idea of becoming a 100% electric brand in Europe by 2030 has already been set aside.

Thus, Ford seems willing to invest in models with internal combustion engines, although only for a few years, as the European Union has mandated the end of cars with combustion engines by 2035.

It is still not known how many models will be launched or when, but it has become clear that Ford is reconsidering its European strategy to become even more competitive.
