Farasis Energy inicia produção piloto de baterias de estado sólido

Mercedes-Benz has been in partnership with the Chinese company Farasis Energy, a battery cell manufacturer, since 2020, for the development of solid-state batteries.

Now the Chinese company has announced that the development of the solid-state battery has entered the pilot production and delivery phase. According to the Chinese publication “IT-Home”, Farasis Energy expects to complete the construction of a pilot production line with a designed capacity of 0.2 GWh for sulfide-based solid-state batteries by the end of 2025.

As part of this plan, Farasis intends to deliver samples of 60 Ah sulfide solid-state batteries to strategic partner customers.

According to the company, in addition to its current partners, other electric vehicle manufacturers have shown interest in Farasis Energy’s solid-state batteries, and the company therefore plans to expand sample deliveries to other customers. Based on market feedback and internal planning, Farasis expects to scale its production of solid-state batteries to gigawatt-hour (GWh) levels by 2026.

Farasis previously stated that its sulfide-based solid-state batteries use high nickel content cathodes paired with high silicon or lithium metal anodes, aiming for an energy density greater than 400 Wh/kg. The cells have already undergone testing under real conditions and, according to revealed information, exhibit stable cycle performance.

Remember that Mercedes-Benz intends to start the production of solid-state batteries before the end of the decade.
