Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will halt the production of the 100% electric EQE and EQS models for the United States market starting September 1.

A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. confirmed to “Inside EVs” that the German automaker will temporarily suspend the production of all variants of the electric EQE and EQS in the U.S., and that all dealers have already been notified that orders for these models are closed.

“Vehicles scheduled for production before the first day of September will be produced“, the spokesperson added.

The same source did not provide a date for the end of the suspension of production of the 100% electric EQE and EQS models in the U.S., which comes at a time when the U.S. administration under Donald Trump announced it will end credits and incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles starting September 30.

The decision now announced by Mercedes affects the Tuscaloosa, Alabama factory in the U.S., which produces the SUV versions of both models, as well as the Bremen and Sindelfingen plants in Germany, which produce the EQE and EQS sedans in Germany, and which are subsequently exported to the U.S.

“As a company with global operations and more than 30 factories around the world, including Alabama and South Carolina, Mercedes-Benz maintains a local-to-local strategy,” said the same source. “With this, we continuously optimize our production network and use its high flexibility to quickly respond to market conditions.”
