The SUV craze shows no signs of slowing down, and Mitsubishi has introduced a new model tailored for the Southeast Asian markets, revealed in Indonesia. It is the Destinator, a model with three rows of seats, designed with families in mind and built to handle all types of terrain.
With an exterior similar to the upcoming generation of the Pajero, the Destinator is based on the front-wheel-drive platform shared with the Xforce and utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 163 hp and 250 Nm of maximum torque.
The non-electrified engine is exclusively paired with a CVT transmission, which sends power to the front wheels. The new SUV also features suspension tuned for greater comfort, five driving modes, and a generous ground clearance that makes the Destinator suitable for all types of terrain and the adverse weather conditions of its target markets.
In terms of dimensions, the Destinator measures 4.68 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.81 m, and is slightly shorter than the Outlander, but offers a wheelbase 110 mm longer, which translates into a more generous interior space.
On the outside, the Destinator features a generous grille, a lighting signature with LED technology, conventional mirrors, and 18’’ wheels.
Inside, Mitsubishi’s new SUV accommodates seven passengers in three rows of seats, is equipped with various storage compartments, although Mitsubishi has not disclosed the exact cargo volume. Also noteworthy is an 8’’ instrument panel and a 12.3’’ infotainment system screen, both in a glossy black frame.
Mitsubishi also announced that the Destinator will make its first public appearance at the Gaikindo International Auto Show in Indonesia on July 23rd.
