VW ID.3 sujeito a teste de resistência de 160.000 km

The battery of a VW ID.3 Pro S was subjected to a test of over 160,000 kilometers to verify its durability and longevity, in what was the first test of its kind conducted on a model from the ID family.

The test, carried out by ADAC, lasted four years and confirmed that the high-voltage battery maintains a net capacity of 91%, thus exceeding the German automaker’s warranty of at least 70% of the original capacity after eight years or 160,000 km.

The ADAC technicians did not spare the battery. To reach 160,000 kilometers in the shortest time possible, they used fast charging stations in over 40% of the charging sessions. Furthermore, contrary to usual recommendations, the vehicle was left at the charging station with 100% charge between test trips, sometimes for several consecutive days.

Between driving sessions, the ID.3 underwent regular checks by engineers from the Bavarian Testing and Technology Center, with special attention to the state of its battery.

The ADAC technicians concluded that it is important to keep the vehicle’s software updated. During the endurance test, the ID.3 received several updates that included, in addition to various bug fixes, an increase in charging capacity up to 170 kW.

The updates had a positive impact on consumption and, consequently, on autonomy. In particular, the new software significantly improved energy consumption on short trips and in winter temperatures, between 0 and 5 °C.

Other positive points highlighted by the ADAC technicians: despite the high mileage, the bodywork and chassis remained in good condition. The axles, suspension, and steering handled the weight of the vehicle well, without showing any problems or significant wear.
