The UK government will move forward with a plan to incentivize the purchase of electric vehicles, offering discounts of up to £3,750 (€4,315) for the purchase of electric cars priced at £37,000 (€42,569) or less, in order to align consumer demand with net zero emissions targets.
The British executive plans to invest £650 million (€747 million) in the discount program, which will be available to consumers starting Wednesday, July 16, as soon as companies enroll in the program.
This electric vehicle purchase incentive program in the UK is part of the government’s strategy to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, Great Britain aims to gradually phase out the sale of new cars with combustion engines by 2030. However, demand for electric cars has stalled, with consumers concerned about the high prices of vehicles.
The new measure from the British government thus responds to the automotive industry’s calls for incentives for electric vehicles, considering that brands need to sell more electric vehicles to meet emissions targets and avoid heavy fines.
