Vinales quebra sequência de vitórias da Ducati com Marquez brilhando após erro de Bagnaia

The Aprilia pilot, Maverick Vinales, achieved a long-awaited victory in the MotoGP sprint race in Portimão, as Pecco Bagnaia’s potential win was thwarted by a sudden incident at Turn 1. Behind Vinales, Marc Marquez celebrated his first podium as a Ducati rider, securing second place. Defending champion Bagnaia seemed on his way to a comfortable first place, but significant braking vibration on lap 9 took him out of contention for the podium. This turn of events allowed Vinales, who was battling a suspected stomach flu, to take the lead and hold off Jorge Martin to secure the win.

Although sprint wins are not counted as official victories in MotoGP, Vinales made history by becoming the first rider in the MotoGP era to win races for three different top-class manufacturers, having previously won for Suzuki and Aprilia. Additionally, Vinales ended Ducati’s streak of 19 consecutive wins in sprints and grands prix, with the last defeat occurring at the Catalunya Grand Prix in September, when Vinales’ teammate Aleix Espargaro emerged victorious.

With Enea Bastianini starting poorly, Vinales managed to keep the lead into Turn 1. However, Jack Miller’s KTM, which had a quick start, overtook Vinales at the fast right-hand Turn 2. Bagnaia then took advantage of the situation and also passed Vinales, taking the lead at the end of the second lap by taking a tighter line in the final downhill corner. From that point on, the race seemed to be Bagnaia’s to lose, with intense battles happening behind him. Marquez made a remarkable move by passing Vinales on the outside earlier in the race and then passed Miller on the following lap. However, Marquez made a mistake on the fifth lap while chasing Bagnaia, allowing Vinales to regain second place. Despite this setback, Bagnaia still held a lead of almost a second until his off-track incident.

At this point, Jorge Martin had also overtaken Marquez with an aggressive move at Turn 3 and seemed poised to pass Vinales. However, Vinales held his ground and, when suddenly finding himself in the lead, maintained his position, crossing the finish line in first place. Martin, who complained of a rear issue after the race, was then overtaken by Marquez on the final lap with a bold move at Turn 5.

After his setback, Bagnaia was unable to get back into contention for the podium and finished four seconds behind the leaders. However, he managed to hold off Miller and Bastianini, with both riders finishing within a quarter of a second of the reigning champion. Rookie Pedro Acosta secured seventh place for Tech3 Gas Gas after resisting Vinales’ Aprilia teammate Espargaro, while Fabio Quartararo earned a single point for Yamaha by choosing to start with the medium rear tire instead of the soft one.

The race had four falls, all occurring in the first four laps. Quartararo’s teammate, Alex Rins, was the first to fall, followed by LCR Honda’s rider, Johann Zarco, who returned to the track before retiring in the pits. Fabio Di Giannantonio, from VR46 Ducati, and Brad Binder, from KTM, were the other two riders who ended up on the ground.

With his performance in the race, Bagnaia now leads the championship by two points over Martin, with Binder and Marquez behind by eight and ten points, respectively.
