The automotive industry continues to invest in hybrid powertrains in order to compensate for the decline in demand for fully electric models globally, driven by tariffs as well as the lack of incentives.
The uncertainty surrounding the transition to electric mobility is leading brands like Honda to halt the development of some of their future models, including a large 100% electric SUV, due to the drop in demand for electric vehicles in the U.S., which is expected to continue to decline in the near future.
According to “Nikkei Asia,” the model was scheduled for 2027; however, Honda has reportedly halted the development of the model and reduced spending on electric vehicles until 2030.
However, the Japanese brand is planning to launch its main electric sedan and the SUVs it presented earlier this year, which are based on the Series 0 concepts. The brand aims for these models to arrive as early as next year.
Remember that Honda had plans to launch seven new 100% electric models by 2030; however, it is unclear how many models are still in development, as the company now seems focused on producing more hybrid models.
