Leclerc lamenta ‘sensação estranha’ com veículo da Ferrari na classificação australiana

Charles Leclerc, the French driver of Scuderia Ferrari, had a disconcerting experience with his Formula 1 car during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Despite showing promise initially by leading the times in practice, Leclerc ended up qualifying in fifth place, over half a second behind Max Verstappen’s fastest time. The problems with his car started earlier in the weekend and, despite trying to make adjustments to the front wing, Leclerc couldn’t find a solution. However, he remains optimistic for the race and will do his best to make the most of the situation.

Leclerc acknowledged that he was cautious about Ferrari’s chances of securing pole position after the practice sessions. This caution arose when Red Bull increased the power of their engines during FP3. Leclerc noticed that between Turn 7 and Turn 9, they were already losing three tenths of a second, which was a significant disadvantage. As a result, he began to doubt if pole position was achievable. However, during Q1, Ferrari showed great strength, giving Leclerc some hope. Unfortunately, in the end, they couldn’t secure pole position.

Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz, who missed the Saudi Arabia weekend due to appendicitis, managed to secure a front row start on his return. Despite Ferrari showing promising pace in long runs during practice, Leclerc believes it will be challenging for him or Sainz to prevent Verstappen from winning. Leclerc admitted that, realistically, Verstappen is expected to be very strong. Although Sergio Perez, starting in third position, may be a potential target, Leclerc acknowledges that Red Bull appears stronger than initially anticipated.

Considering that overtaking opportunities are limited at Albert Park, Leclerc is hopeful that Pirelli’s decision to bring their softer compounds could create some chances. When asked if he was optimistic about the possibility of a two-stop strategy opening up opportunities, Leclerc expressed his hope. However, he emphasized that their focus will be on themselves and putting more pressure on Red Bull, something they have not been able to do so far.
