After BYD announced plans to build a factory in Europe, it is now Changan Automobile, one of the leading car manufacturers in China, that announced it is studying the feasibility of building a factory in Europe.
In statements to “Reuters,” Nic Thomas, European marketing director of Changan, said that the Chinese brand is already evaluating possible locations for setting up a production unit. “We are committed to being in Europe, producing in Europe for Europe.”
The same official did not provide a timeline for a decision on the new factory in Europe, but announced that, “we already believe we will achieve the projected sales volume, and therefore we are already in the planning phase.”
Changan announced in March that it intends to enter 10 markets in Europe this year with electric vehicle models. In Portugal, Changan is represented by Grupo Auto-Industrial and plans to introduce nine car models over the next three years, highlighting the electric SUV, Deepal S07.
