Laguna Seca resolve disputa legal sobre efeitos na comunidade local.

The famous Laguna Seca curve witnesses a wide variety of vehicles annually. The entities responsible for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, specifically the County of Monterey and the Friends of Laguna Seca, reached an agreement in the legal dispute filed against them by the Highway 68 Coalition a few months ago.

The Highway 68 Coalition alleged that local residents were dissatisfied with the impact caused by the local racetrack, resulting in increased noise and spectator traffic during race weekends. Their intention was not to close the track, but to address concerns related to the number of events held throughout the year and the lack of proper review processes.

By reaching an agreement with the coalition, the historic track in Southern California will be able to continue hosting events without interruptions, as originally planned. As stewards of the facilities, the Friends of Laguna Seca will also conduct assessments related to sound mitigation and its effects on surrounding areas in order to comply with the terms of the agreement.

“The Friends of Laguna Seca are pleased to have promptly resolved the legal issue and look forward to taking the next steps to ensure the long-term success of Laguna Seca, benefiting the Monterey County community and the global racing community,” expressed Ross Merrill, President of the Friends of Laguna Seca. He further emphasized the time needed for these improvements, but assured the commitment to ensuring the prosperity of Laguna Seca for future generations.

The press release emphasizes the track’s dedication to the local community, highlighting that the new sound assessments are part of the commitment to being a considerate neighbor. Built in 1957, Laguna Seca has been in continuous operation since then and has gained worldwide recognition as one of the most prominent tracks.

Last year, the 2.23-mile track underwent a complete repaving and has plans to host IMSA and IndyCar events this season, along with several other sanctioned competitions throughout the year. Bruce Canepa, Vice President of the Friends of Laguna Seca, shared his personal connection to the facilities, having attended races there since the late 1970s and raced on the track himself. He expressed his lifelong passion for preserving the site for future generations and highlighted the formation of a dedicated team within the Friends of Laguna Seca, made up of people who share the same passion and have the necessary business experience to transform Laguna Seca into the place they have always imagined.
