The British Lotus is preparing to put an end to production in Hethel, Norfolk, in the United Kingdom, as the company owned by Geely will transfer production to the USA.
According to the “Autocar”, the order to halt production in Hethel was communicated by Lotus China; however, the decision may be reversed, as the British publication reports that the UK government is willing to offer support to keep the brand in England.

Despite the rumors, the British brand has revealed in a statement published on social media that “the UK is the heart of the Lotus brand”. The document also states that “Lotus Cars continues to operate normally. There are no plans to close any factory.”
The note from Lotus further states that the UK is “the home of our sports car production, global design center, motorsport operations, and Lotus Engineering”, but adds that Lotus is “actively exploring strategic options to increase efficiency and ensure global competitiveness in an evolving market”.
However, the “Financial Times” has revealed that the statement was made by Lotus on social media, following the UK government’s indication that it was prepared to offer support to protect British jobs.
