Rising Star Liam Lawson Shuts Down ‘Revenge’ Speculations After Surpassing Max Verstappen in Qualifying Battle

In a jaw-dropping turn of events at the Austrian Grand Prix, Liam Lawson has managed to outshine his former teammate Max Verstappen in qualifying, sparking speculations of a possible revenge scenario. Lawson, currently in P6 with Racing Bulls, has left Verstappen trailing behind in P7 with Red Bull on the grid. However, despite his tumultuous history with Red Bull in F1 2025, Lawson has vehemently denied any notions of seeking revenge against Verstappen.

Following Sergio Perez’s departure from Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season, Lawson was brought in as his replacement but struggled to match the pace of Verstappen. Subsequently, he was demoted back to the junior team, and Yuki Tsunoda was promoted. While Tsunoda has also faced challenges, scoring only seven points as a Red Bull driver, Verstappen continues to chase the title, albeit facing obstacles in the Austrian GP qualifying session.

During the qualifying round, Verstappen encountered yellow flags due to a spin by Pierre Gasly, disrupting his final Q3 attempt and landing him in P7 on the grid. In contrast, Lawson delivered an impressive performance, securing P6. Despite the insinuations of a possible rivalry, Lawson dismissed the idea of seeking retribution against Verstappen, emphasizing that he has not had the opportunity to race against him.

“It’s not revenge, no,” stated Lawson, addressing the media after qualifying. “It’s a good position obviously, we maximised today, but I obviously don’t expect to be racing tomorrow with some of the guys around us.”

While Verstappen’s team principal, Christian Horner, commended him for reacting to the yellow flags and avoiding a penalty, the Dutch driver remains on the edge with 11 penalty points, just one point away from a race ban. However, with two points set to drop off after the Austrian Grand Prix, Verstappen is anticipated to have some relief.

As the F1 2025 season unfolds, the competition between Lawson and Verstappen continues to intensify, setting the stage for a thrilling battle on the track. With both drivers showcasing their prowess and determination, fans are in for an exhilarating spectacle as they vie for supremacy in the world of Formula 1.
