Lewis Hamilton Matches Charles Leclerc’s Speed at Ferrari Despite Austria F1 Qualifying Setback

In a surprising turn of events at the Austrian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton showcased his determination and skill by matching the speed of his teammate Charles Leclerc at Ferrari. Despite a slight slip-up during qualifying, the seven-time World Champion expressed satisfaction in his improved performance and setup of the Ferrari SF-25.

Hamilton’s ability to extract better performance from the car came at a crucial time for the team, as they introduced several upgrades to enhance their competitiveness on the track. Both Hamilton and Leclerc displayed a positive trajectory, with Leclerc securing second place on the grid and Hamilton closely behind in fourth, positioning themselves well for the race ahead.

During a post-qualifying interview, Hamilton highlighted his progress in narrowing the gap with Leclerc, stating, “Setup wise, I’m finally getting much closer to where Charles has the car, for example, which I’ve not been able to do all year. Ultimately I was as fast as him.” This revelation marks a significant development for Hamilton, who has been striving to keep up with Leclerc’s qualifying pace throughout the season.

Despite feeling confident in his speed compared to Leclerc, Hamilton’s small error on his final lap cost him a higher grid position. A minor mistake midway through the lap resulted in him finishing just nine hundredths of a second behind Leclerc. However, Hamilton remained optimistic about the race pace of the car and the possibility of securing a podium finish.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity to secure a better grid position, Hamilton revealed, “I had more time in the lap. I was nearly three tenths up going into Turn 6, and I had a massive snap going in.” Despite this setback, Hamilton acknowledged the positives in his performance and remained focused on continuing to make progress.

As the anticipation builds for the race day, Hamilton’s determination to challenge Leclerc and the other frontrunners is palpable. With the potential for an exciting battle on the track, all eyes will be on Hamilton and his pursuit of victory at the Austrian Grand Prix.
