Max Verstappen’s Fate Hangs by a Thread: 8 Offences That Could Ban Him

Max Verstappen, the Formula 1 prodigy, is on the brink of a potential ban from the upcoming British Grand Prix if he incurs just one more penalty point. The Dutch driver’s past infractions, including a collision with Lando Norris in last year’s Austrian GP, have put him in a precarious position, with two penalty points set to expire after the Red Bull Ring race.

The FIA has unveiled the stringent penalty guidelines for stewards, shedding light on the offenses that could lead to Verstappen’s ban from the British Grand Prix. Apart from the more severe two or three-point infractions, there are eight one-point offenses that could push him over the edge, some of which may seem relatively minor.

Among these offenses are crossing a line or missing a bollard at the pit entry or exit, unsafe track re-entry during qualifying, failure to adhere to blue flags, breaching minimum times behind safety cars, and unsafe pit stop releases. These seemingly innocuous actions could accumulate penalty points and potentially disrupt Verstappen’s racing calendar.

Notably, the current penalty point system in Formula 1 has drawn criticism from drivers like Pierre Gasly, Isack Hadjar, and Lance Stroll, who argue that the consequences can be severe for relatively minor mistakes. Gasly expressed concern about the possibility of a race ban for infractions that may not necessarily indicate dangerous driving.

As the tension mounts for Verstappen leading up to the British Grand Prix, the spotlight is on his every move on the track. Will he navigate the weekend without triggering a ban, or will the threat of penalty points loom large over his performance? Only time will tell as the high-stakes drama of Formula 1 unfolds.
