General Motors is recalling more than 62,000 pickups in the U.S. due to a fire risk in the vehicles.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue involves the Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models produced between 2019 and 2024.
The government agency warned in a statement that “The brake pressure sensor assembly may leak fluid into the brake system pressure switch and cause a short circuit”.
According to the same NHTSA statement, this short circuit could lead to circuit overheating and “increase the risk of fire while driving or parked”.
Owners of the affected models have been advised to park their vehicles on the street and away from homes or buildings until their vehicles can be inspected by the manufacturer, which will incur no costs for the owners.
