“Apple CarPlay Ultra does not convince major car manufacturers.”

Apple CarPlay Ultra não convence os grandes fabricantes de automóveis

Apple is facing resistance in the automotive sector regarding the new CarPlay Ultra infotainment system, which the brand recently debuted with Aston Martin.

It is true that the new system operates on all screens of the car and is fully integrated into the vehicle, effectively replacing an infotainment system that brands provide as standard in their models.

However, despite the new system making sense for a small automaker like Aston Martin, several major manufacturers are not pleased with Apple’s new technology.

According to a report from the “Financial Times”, brands such as Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Porsche, Renault, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, to whom Apple presented the new system in 2022, some of them have now stated that they have no plans to add CarPlay Ultra to their vehicles.

Many companies consider Apple’s new infotainment system to be a true “overkill.” According to a representative from Renault, the French brand reportedly informed the American tech company to “not try to invade Renault’s systems.”

Moreover, other brands like Audi have confirmed to the British publication that, although they do not plan to offer CarPlay Ultra, they will continue to provide the regular CarPlay system, which is also the case with BMW.

It is not surprising that many of the world’s largest car brands are uncertain about Apple’s system, as many of them intend to maintain control over the onboard experiences of their vehicles, considering that software and subscription services are a crucial source of revenue in the future.
