Carlos Sainz Sr. Shocks by Withdrawing FIA Presidency Bid Against Ben Sulayem

In a shocking turn of events, Carlos Sainz Sr. has decided to step back from the fierce battle for the FIA presidency, leaving Mohammed Ben Sulayem in a potentially uncontested position at the helm of Formula 1 and motorsport’s global governing body.

The motorsport community was bracing for a heated showdown between the Spanish racing legend and the Emirati powerhouse in the upcoming December election. Sainz Sr., a double world rally champion and a four-time Dakar winner, had been toying with the idea of challenging Ben Sulayem for the prestigious FIA top job since May. However, the recent announcement of his withdrawal has sent shockwaves through the racing world.

With Sainz Sr. out of the race, all eyes are now on Ben Sulayem, who seems to be cruising towards a smooth re-election. The absence of a strong competitor raises questions about the future direction of the FIA under Ben Sulayem’s continued leadership.

The motorsport landscape is undoubtedly in for a major shakeup following Sainz Sr.’s unexpected retreat. As stakeholders and fans alike await further developments, one thing is certain – the road to the FIA presidency just got a lot clearer for Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
