George Russell’s “Kindergarten” Response Triggers Red Bull’s Double Protest Drama

Red Bull Faces Backlash Over Controversial Response to George Russell’s Protest

Red Bull’s recent decision to challenge George Russell’s victory at the Canadian Grand Prix has sparked outrage and criticism from former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who likened the move to behavior found in a kindergarten playground. The dispute between Russell and Max Verstappen during the race led to Red Bull’s protest being dismissed for lacking any substantial grounds.

The incident occurred as Russell and Verstappen found themselves in a heated battle behind the Safety Car towards the end of the Grand Prix. Russell, in an attempt to warm up his tires, braked suddenly, causing Verstappen to pass him. Despite Russell’s claims that Verstappen overtook him illegally, the stewards took no action against the reigning World Champion.

Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, accused Russell of unsportsmanlike conduct, leading the team to protest under Article 55.5 of the Sporting Regulations. However, the FIA stewards swiftly rejected the protests, deeming them unfounded.

Montoya criticized Red Bull’s response, emphasizing the childish nature of the situation and drawing parallels to past conflicts between team principals and race officials. He highlighted the potential impact of the looming race ban on Verstappen’s performance, suggesting that the threat of suspension is influencing the way he approaches races.

Verstappen’s clean record at the Canadian Grand Prix gives him a slight buffer before facing a potential ban. With just one more race to navigate before losing two penalty points, Verstappen must exercise caution to maintain his position in the championship standings.

As the tension escalates between rival teams and drivers, the F1 community eagerly awaits the next twist in this gripping saga. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the drama unfolds on the track.
