Guenther Steiner slams Red Bull’s “petty” protest with dramatic consequences

Red Bull Under Fire for “Petty” Protest in F1 Drama

The Formula 1 world is buzzing with controversy as former Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner, slams Red Bull for what he deems a “petty” protest against George Russell following the Canadian Grand Prix. Red Bull’s protest targeted Russell’s victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, focusing on alleged incidents during a late safety car period.

Red Bull’s claims that Russell brake tested Max Verstappen and fell more than 10 car lengths behind the safety car were met with swift rejection by the FIA stewards. The protests were lodged at 17:34 local time, with the final decision coming at 21:05, causing a delay in the official race results being published.

Steiner expressed his disapproval of Red Bull’s actions, stating that delaying the confirmation of race results reflects poorly on the sport. He criticized the protest, deeming it unnecessary and questioning the validity of the claims against Russell.

In a bold statement to the Red Flags podcast, Steiner remarked, “I think it was petty because I don’t think it was a game from George under the safety car, the 10 car lengths. I don’t think he was brake testing him because he [Verstappen] was not behind him.”

The drama surrounding Red Bull’s protest has ignited a fierce debate within the F1 community, with many questioning the motives behind the last-minute challenge to Russell’s victory. The implications of such protests on the integrity of the sport have been brought to the forefront, with concerns raised about the potential impact on race outcomes.

As the fallout from the Canadian Grand Prix continues to unfold, the controversy surrounding Red Bull’s protest serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes and intense rivalries that define Formula 1. Stay tuned as the F1 world braces for the next twist in this gripping saga.
