In a shocking turn of events, the aftermath of the Canadian Grand Prix continues to unfold as it’s revealed that two senior Mercedes figures missed their flights home due to Red Bull’s controversial protest being deemed a “waste of time.”

Following Red Bull’s protest against George Russell’s victory in Montreal, alleging unsportsmanlike behavior and a significant distance behind the safety car, tensions ran high. The stewards summoned both Russell and Max Verstappen to investigate, with Mercedes’ sporting director Ron Meadows and trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin representing the team. After nearly five hours, the protest was dismissed, labeling it a futile exercise.

Russell expressed his bewilderment at the situation, stating, “Max didn’t know there was a protest even going on. So, I don’t know what was going on or what they were thinking. I’m glad nothing happened one way or another.” The unnecessary ordeal led to Meadows and Shovlin missing their flights back to the UK, causing inconvenience and frustration for all parties involved.

As the dust settles on this saga, the focus now shifts to the upcoming races, leaving behind a trail of disrupted travel plans and unanswered questions. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
