Citroën chama à oficina cerca de 15 mil veículos em Portugal devido a problemas no airbag

Citroën requested on Tuesday the immediate halt for repairs of all C3 and DS3 models in Europe still equipped with Takata airbags, following a new death in France related to the defective equipment.

The measure encompasses the call to workshops for 441,000 Citroën C3 and DS3 vehicles equipped with potentially defective Takata airbags, regardless of the production year, in Belgium and Germany, including an additional 82,000 in France, where Citroën has already requested the halt of vehicles affected by this issue.

It should be noted that in France, Citroën began the halt of about 236,900 C3 and DS3 models in early 2025, following an initial campaign in the spring of 2024 for some models in southern Europe.

The problem with the defective airbags from the Japanese brand Takata emerged in 2024 and has affected the global automotive sector with several cases of fatalities. The issue involves a gas that becomes unstable, which can cause the airbag to explode, especially in hot and humid climates, where the weather can lead to its degradation.

Since April 2024, as part of the first wave of recalls launched in southern Europe and the Maghreb, more than 400,000 vehicles have been repaired, out of the 530,000 Citroën C3 and DS3 sold between 2009 and 2019 in the areas in question.
