Lewis Hamilton’s Canadian Grand Prix took a dramatic turn when a groundhog incident cost him a higher placement in the Formula 1 race. The seven-time world champion had to settle for sixth place after hitting the unexpected obstacle during the event.

Hamilton, who initially aimed for a podium finish, found himself struggling with car damage caused by the groundhog collision. The Mercedes driver revealed that the impact destroyed the front right of his car, leading to a significant loss in performance throughout the race.

Team boss Fred Vasseur confirmed the extent of the damage, stating that Hamilton had incurred a loss of around 20 points of downforce due to the incident. This setback ultimately hindered Hamilton’s ability to compete with the leading pack, forcing him to nurse his damaged car until the end of the race.

Despite the challenges faced, Hamilton managed to maintain his position within the race, even amidst post-pit stop traffic that left him in a difficult position on the track. The British driver expressed disappointment over the missed opportunity for a higher placement, reflecting on the series of events that led to his eventual sixth-place finish.

Hamilton’s fortunes improved slightly towards the end of the race when a collision between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri allowed him to move up a spot to sixth place. Although grateful for the unexpected advancement, Hamilton remained dissatisfied with the overall outcome of the race.

Reflecting on his experience at the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of the fans throughout the weekend. Despite the challenges faced on the track, Hamilton acknowledged the incredible atmosphere and the loyalty of his supporters, emphasizing the positive aspects of the event.

The unexpected encounter with the groundhog not only impacted Hamilton’s race but also added a unique twist to his Grand Prix experience. As the F1 season progresses, Hamilton will be looking to bounce back from this setback and refocus on his pursuit of further success on the track.
