Red Bull’s Fierce Battle at Canadian GP: Horner Warns of “Gamesmanship” Against Verstappen

In a nail-biting showdown at the Canadian Grand Prix, Red Bull’s Team Principal, Christian Horner, made a bold move by alerting the race director to watch out for any sneaky tactics aimed at Max Verstappen by their Formula 1 rivals. The tension was high as Verstappen, just one penalty point away from a race ban after his clash with George Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix, faced off against Russell once again in Montreal.

The race unfolded with Russell starting on pole position and Verstappen right behind him. All eyes were on Turn 1 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, waiting for any sign of foul play. While the initial laps seemed uneventful, a late safety car period due to a crash between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri reignited the rivalry. Verstappen accused Russell over team radio of braking aggressively and falling more than the permitted 10 car lengths behind the safety car.

The aftermath saw Red Bull filing a protest post-race, alleging unsportsmanlike behavior from Russell. Despite the stewards ultimately rejecting most of the claims, the intense battle between the two drivers continued off the track as they presented their cases to the stewards for around 45 minutes.

Horner emphasized that Red Bull anticipated such “gamesmanship” and had raised concerns with the race director prior to the Grand Prix. He defended Verstappen’s clean driving throughout the weekend and clarified that the team’s protest was independent of any influence from the Dutch driver.

The saga concluded with Russell and Mercedes celebrating victory hours after the race, putting to rest another chapter in the Verstappen-Russell rivalry. Horner reiterated that the team’s actions were within their rights as competitors, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring fairness on the track.

As the dust settles on this dramatic race, Formula 1 fans are left eager for the next thrilling installment in the ongoing battle for supremacy on the track.
