The XC90 SUV is the model that marked the beginning of a new era for the Swedish brand, and the second generation of the model has just reached a symbolic milestone, with one million units produced at the Torslanda factory in Sweden.
Launched in 2014, the XC90 marked the debut of the innovative SPA platform, combining Scandinavian design, technological innovation, and a commitment to safety, propelling the brand into the premium segment.
In addition, the XC90 is also a reference in terms of safety. From the Safety Cage structure to pioneering technologies such as the automatic braking system at intersections or the road departure protection. The integration of radar, cameras, and active assistance systems are other safety solutions that Volvo claims ensure safer driving for everyone.
The success story of the XC90 began with the First Edition, a special series of 1,927 numbered units – a reference to the year Volvo was founded – sold exclusively online, which sold out in just 47 hours.
“The XC90 has been a key model for the factory, leading the way as we continuously refine our manufacturing processes, workplace safety, technology, sustainability, and quality standards. The success of this model is a recognition of the dedication and tireless work of our people”, said Nicolas Guibert, Head of Production at Volvo Cars.
Volvo also announced that the one millionth XC90 model has left the Torslanda factory, with a body color of “Bright Dusk,” and is destined for a Swedish customer.
