Yuki Tsunoda Slams Race Officials for Unjust Grid Penalty in F1 Canadian Grand Prix

Rising F1 star Yuki Tsunoda is not holding back his frustration after receiving a controversial 10-place grid penalty for overtaking under red flag conditions during the Canadian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver expressed his disbelief at the penalty, which he deemed as “ridiculous” and unwarranted.

The incident occurred during the final practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve when Tsunoda passed Oscar Piastri’s damaged McLaren under red flag conditions. Despite Tsunoda’s argument that the circumstances justified his actions due to the debris on the track, race officials upheld the penalty, citing no mitigating circumstances.

Tsunoda, known for his bold driving style, defended his move, stating, “I overtook with a sensible speed which was 170kph, half the speed at which we normally drive, and I got a penalty.” The Japanese driver expressed his disappointment at starting from the back of the grid for the second consecutive race, following a similar penalty in the Spanish Grand Prix.

The grid penalty comes after a challenging weekend for Tsunoda, who struggled to find his pace in the RB21 compared to his teammate Max Verstappen. Despite his difficulties, Tsunoda remains optimistic, noting improvements in the car’s performance after receiving new parts to match Verstappen’s setup.

Tsunoda’s determination to bounce back from setbacks and deliver improved results will be crucial as he aims to secure his position within the competitive Red Bull Racing team. Stay tuned for more updates on Yuki Tsunoda’s journey in Formula 1.
