Lando Norris’s Disastrous Qualifying Session at F1 Canadian GP Leaves Him in 7th Place

British driver Lando Norris faced a nightmare during the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix qualifying session, admitting to making “a couple of big mistakes” that ultimately landed him in seventh place on the starting grid. The McLaren racer expressed his frustration after struggling at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, where his usual pace advantage disappeared, much to his dismay.

Norris, who currently sits 10 points behind his teammate Oscar Piastri in the championship standings, reflected on the session where he failed to secure a higher position. He pinpointed two critical errors that cost him valuable time, one being “hitting the wall on the last lap in the exit of [turn] seven” and the other occurring on “the first lap, last corner.”

Despite McLaren leading the constructors’ standings by a significant 197 points, Norris acknowledged the team’s lackluster performance in Canada, attributing it to the track’s characteristics. The Briton highlighted the challenges posed by the low grip levels and the demanding kerbs at the circuit, which prevented the team from showcasing its full potential.

Looking ahead to the race, Norris remained cautiously optimistic about his prospects but acknowledged the tough competition he would face. While he expressed doubts about securing a podium finish due to the team’s reduced pace compared to previous races, he remained hopeful for a competitive showing.

With the Canadian Grand Prix presenting unique challenges for McLaren and Norris, the driver is determined to make up ground and improve his position during the race. Despite the setbacks in qualifying, he remains confident in his ability to push forward and capitalize on any opportunities that may arise on race day.
