In a stunning turnaround, Lando Norris emerges victorious in the final free practice session leading up to the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying rounds. After a disastrous Friday, where he dubbed it as McLaren’s “worst of the year,” Norris bounced back on Saturday, claiming the top spot with a blazing time of 1m11.799s. His exceptional performance pushed Charles Leclerc into second place, followed closely by George Russell and Lewis Hamilton in their Ferraris.

Despite Norris’s redemption, his teammate and current championship leader, Oscar Piastri, encountered a heart-stopping moment at the final corner, narrowly avoiding disaster as he suffered a right rear puncture, prompting a red flag. Piastri, unable to match Norris’s pace, concluded the session in eighth place, trailing by seven tenths.

The session witnessed other heart-stopping incidents, including Nico Hulkenberg’s spin at the final chicane, miraculously avoiding a collision with the wall. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen clinched the fifth spot, with Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin being the only competitor coming within half a second of Norris’s remarkable time.

As the drivers tackled the Montreal circuit, the battle for the top spot intensified, with each contender opting for the softest compound, C6, provided by Pirelli. Piastri’s encounter with the notorious ‘wall of champions’ raised the stakes, setting the stage for an electrifying qualifying session.

The intense session culminated with Andrea Kimi Antonelli securing the seventh position, overshadowing Piastri, who settled for eighth. The Williams duo of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon rounded up the top 10, setting the stage for a thrilling qualifying showdown.

Yuki Tsunoda faced a challenging session, finishing at the bottom and facing scrutiny for a potential red flag violation. With tensions running high and the competition heating up, the stage is set for an exhilarating Canadian Grand Prix qualifying round.
