Shane van Gisbergen despises rain races but dominates – a royal struggle for victory!

Driver Shane van Gisbergen speaks with the media during IMSA Media Day at the Roar Before the 24 in preparation for the Rolex 24 at Daytona at Daytona International Speedway, Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025.

Shane van Gisbergen Dominates NASCAR World with Impressive Skills in Rain Races

In a shocking turn of events almost two years ago, Shane van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion from New Zealand, made a remarkable debut in the NASCAR world by clinching victory at the Chicago Street Course. This achievement, unseen in the Cup Series for over 60 years, marked the beginning of Van Gisbergen’s journey as a full-time NASCAR competitor, showcasing his gradual improvement on oval tracks while excelling on road courses.

With four road/street courses remaining in the regular season, the upcoming race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez presents a unique opportunity for Van Gisbergen. Similar to his triumphant race in Chicago in 2023, the Mexican circuit offers uncharted territory for the Cup Series competitors, setting the stage for Van Gisbergen’s exceptional skills to shine once again. The anticipation is high as he aims to secure his second career NASCAR Cup Series win.

Despite his proficiency in rain races, Van Gisbergen surprisingly admits, “I absolutely hate racing in the rain, but I’m good at it.” His remarkable ability to navigate slippery conditions has earned him recognition, even though he personally finds it chaotic and less enjoyable. However, the challenge of rain races does not deter him from showcasing his talent and pushing the limits of his performance.

Transitioning from oval tracks to road courses feels like a ‘holiday’ for Van Gisbergen, providing a refreshing change of pace and a chance to further elevate his standing in the NASCAR realm. His recent improvements on ovals, marked by a series of top-20 finishes, indicate his growing adaptability and competitiveness in the American racing scene.

As Van Gisbergen continues to acclimate to the nuances of NASCAR racing, his dedication and perseverance are evident in his approach to each race. With the support of his team owner, Justin Marks, Van Gisbergen remains focused on steady progress and continuous learning, aiming for breakthrough performances that could redefine his NASCAR journey.

With the pressure mounting to secure a spot in the playoffs, a potential win at the upcoming race would solidify Van Gisbergen’s position and validate his relentless pursuit of excellence in NASCAR. As he demonstrates his prowess in practice sessions and maintains a top-ten presence, all eyes are on Van Gisbergen as he navigates the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead in his quest for NASCAR glory.
